The name of this wine pays tribute to the man who recognized the potential of Rustenberg, and bought the farm in 1941, reuniting the property, restoring its buildings and investing in its potential to make world class wines. The oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard on the estate is named the Peter Barlow block and consistently produces powerful, long-lived Cabernet Sauvignon that is given the best possible treatment in the cellar. Peter's family now continues his legacy. We recommend decanting this wine before serving.
Tasting notes:
Rich aromas of red and black fruits, cedar, and clove, with lively acidity and velvety tannins. Outstanding balance of oak integration and fruit weight, with a long finish.

94, points, Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024
‘You’d expect Peter Barlow to be special in a vintage like 2021, and it doesn’t disappoint. A textbook expression of Simonsberg Cabernet Sauvignon, it's a layered, focused, complex red that will blossom in bottle. Taut, elegant and well structured, with cassis, graphite and blackcurrant leaf notes and sinewy tannins. 2025-40’ –

‘The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Peter Barlow is a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from vines planted in the mid-80s at around 300m above sea level (higher, and the fruit doesn't ripen). It is matured for 20 months in two-thirds new French oak, around four months less than previously. It was brought in just as Covid began to shut down the country. The intense yet well-defined bouquet has mineral-rich black fruit, hints of black truffle and pencil box - focused and pure. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins counterbalanced by a silver bead of acidity. A mixture of black and blue fruit is laced with violets and white pepper, fanning out wonderfully on the finish. It will require 4-5 years to subsume the new oak, but there is a lot of panache in this cuvée. 2026-2045’ –
